History
Jacob Thomas Ness was born to Thomas (a Commodore) and Cynthia (a Starfleet doctor) Ness on Earth. Ness majored in Starship Engineering at the Academy, mentored by Professor William James. He graduated 4th in his class, and was posted to Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, where he helped design several components of the Akira Class starship. Once the Dominion War began, ship design was less of a priority, and ship repair was. He was reassigned to the USS Cermal, a Saber Class SCE Combat Support Tender, which repaired the main starships from behind the lines. After the Cermal was destroyed by a Dominion attack ship, Lt. Cmdr. Ness was transferred to the USS Trenton, a Prometheus Class vessel, as Chief Operations Officer. He soon resigned Starfleet for unspecified reasons and joined the KDF at Starbase KDB under the command of K'rahl, and later transferred with K'rahl to the IKS Hegh leng. He later transferred to the IKS meH'Haj as Chief Operations Officer, and since then was given the added responsibility of Second Officer. Since transferring to the KDF, he goes by the name "Ness" alone, and rarely uses his first name at all.
Ness lost his position as Second Officer, partially due to a recommendation by K'Hare, as well as several mistakes he has recently made. He has also been assigned the job of teaching vessel operations to Tarlin James.
Ness is an excellent engineer with both Starfleet and Klingon technological experience. He has contributed several advancements to the ship, though he was also responsible for unleashing an Adaptive Cascade Virus on the ship's computer core. Ness has a working knowlege of Klingon policy and can use a bat'leth, but avoids the mek'leth due to an incident on the Hegh leng. Ness has always carried a concealed Type-I phaser, which he has used four times since joining the KDF. He participated in betleH III, where he became friends with Sajida Kajada. He greatly respects Ta'pez, and will follow his orders without question, but he did not work well with several officers, including T'lai, K'Vok, and Dr. McLaughlin. He was good friends with Sajida Kajada, Kevek, G'Trell James, and toreQ.
