History

Hunter moved to New York with his mother at the age of five and quickly developed a love for the bustling noise and busy nature of Manhattan. He attended a local school and showed promise yet apathy in a number of his subjects. He proved popular with classmates and teachers alike, and excelled in sports events. As a child Hunter was occasionally present aboard the Mammoth at the request of his father who encouraged him to develop an interest in engineering however Hunter rejected the idea. At secondary school Hunter continued to coast never taking a real interest in most of his subjects till late on and eventually achieving good but unimpressive grades. As he had done at his first school he proved popular with his peers and took his sporting success to the next level by representing the school in a number of events, most notably football where he was invited to try out for the state team. Though he was not admitted, he maintained an interest in the sport and still plays when able to this day.

At the age of fifteen he began to take a serious interest in becoming a pilot, tracking down books and recruitment productions. Though he initially demonstrated no desire to join the Marine Corps over the regular Fleet, it seemed to his eyes that the entry requirements in the Corps were more suited to him and eager to prove himself, he signed up immediately upon leaving school. Fighter pilot training was the first learning experience of his life where Hunter applied himself completely. He excelled in the course and was engaged in heated competition for the honour of qualifying top of his class until a forced ejection above water in his final year led to a near-fatal spinal injury and subsequent surgery. Though he performed in the final practical flight exam against his doctors orders, the time missed coupled with a mediocre performance led to his graduating third in his class.

Upon his first service assignment, he was immediately made the Squadron XO aboard the USS Paladin due to a shortage of officers in the sector. Over the course of his two year posting to the starship, he was involved in numerous ground and aerial combat actions resulting in two letters of commendation from his superior officers, a Purple Heart medal for further spinal injury sustained during a ground based rescue operation of the ship’s two senior officers and a Bronze Star medal for the same operation. He was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and received a field promotion to Captain upon becoming the marine battalion’s executive officer. Hunter proved uncomfortable in the administrative role and subsequently took an extended LOA to return to Earth. His field promotion was withdrawn as a result and upon returning to the Fleet he was assigned to Alpha Centauri as an operations officer for ten months.

His frustration with the role grew until late in 2381 when he was ordered to report to Starbase KDB, the Klingon Armoured Station then under the command of K’Hare totlh, to serve as a test pilot for an experimental fighter project developed as a venture between Starfleet and the Klingon Defence Fleet subject to him transferring out of the Corps. Eager to get back in the cockpit, he readily accepted.

The following year Hunter was assigned to the secretive Project Isolo in Klingon space and remained in the role, ostensibly as a test pilot, for the next four years. The project was never announced publically and few in Starfleet or the KDF are aware of its existence.

His recent assignments have removed him from the limelight offered some however it is no overstatement to rate him as one of the finest fighter pilots in the Fleet, albeit with apparently limited combat experience in the past four years.

Family

Hunter's father (Alistair) was originally a conceptual draftsman at Starfleet's San Francisco Fleet Yards, though following his divorce with Hunter's mother in 2364 began to work as the chief engineer aboard the Federation freighter, SS Mammoth. He was killed when the vessel was attacked and destroyed by Cardassian pirates in 2368. Hunter's mother (Comm. Monica Scottoline) is currently a senior surgeon and advisor at Starfleet Medical. She disliked Alistair Hunter's lack of ambition and fears the same trait may be present in her son. Hunter does not keep in regular touch and the two's relationship has a history of being strained. Hunter has no siblings

Personality

Hunter can appear to be brash and cocky at times, being intelligent, physically able and unafraid to show off. He likes to show a smiling face at all times and rarely involves himself in the emotional troubles of others, instead preferring to ignore whatever the issue may be. Similarly, he has demonstrated an unwillingness to deal with his own more troublesome emotions, and as a result angry outburts have been noted. He is easily stirred to action and has been known to go against his natural intelligence and ‘jump into’ things without advance planning. Likes to follow his gut but has a strong loyalty to the chain of command and will generally follow even orders that conflict with personal misgivings.

Hunter is generally very sociable, in keeping with the stereotypes surrounding pilots however recent assignments have led to him becoming tight-lipped regarding operations activities. He can often be found in a bar whilst off-duty however contrary to his own belief, is not a hardened drinker. Professionally he has proven himself to be extraordinarily confident in his own skill and more than capable of leading a flight group however has found himself at odds with the idea of, ‘hands-off’ command as evidenced when he became executive officer of the marine group aboard the Paladin. In terms of relationships he has developed few long-term intimate associations and has never lived personally with a partner or been engaged. He remains on good terms with his former co-pilot, Elizabeth French, now CAG aboard the USS Babington, however the two have not been in contact since Hunter left KDB.
